Bridge time and space with the Peoples Screen at the Northbridge Piazza - sharing screens in real time between Guangzhou (China) and Perth (Australia). Who will you see? What will you do? Come along to the Northbridge Piazza and be part of this virtual space.
Located at Guangzhou Light Festival, China and Northbridge Piazza Perth, Australia
13-29 November 2015
7-10pm (Wednesdays 7-8:30pm)
Developed for the Guangzhou Light Festival and the Northbridge Piazza, ‘Peoples Screen’ offers people in Guangzhou and Perth the opportunity to co-create chance encounters and spontaneous interactions between these cities. Two separate audience groups will be brought together on screen using 'blue-screen' technology at each location and given the opportunity to meet in a shared space on the screen in a variety of digital backgrounds converging scenes of Perth and Guangzhou in a virtual world.
This installation adopts a playful and open approach to public urban video screens to manifest a truly interactive ‘Peoples Screen’. Inspired in part by 3D anamorphic street art and computer games, the motivation behind this proposal also comes from the historic films of Lumière contemporaries Mitchell and Kenyon, whose films of Edwardian public crowds in the 1900’s present a striking similarity to the way audiences react and respond in Sermon and Gould’s telematic urban screen interventions.
Paul Sermon and Charlotte Gould are artists and researchers from the University of Brighton in the United Kingdom.
Peoples Screen has been commissioned by Public Art Lab Berlin for the Connecting Cities Network partners Guangzhou Light Festival and Northbridge Piazza Perth.
